351 Water Street Wins 2016 Canadian Consulting Engineering Award of Excellence

26 October 2016, St. John’s, NL – East Port Properties is proud to announce that Stantec has been awarded a 2016 Canadian Consulting Engineering Award of Excellence for 351 Water Street, achieving the highest national mark of recognition.

As the developers of 351 Water Street, East Port Properties wanted a building of firsts – the first new office building in St. John’s in 25 years, the first use of precast concrete for both aesthetics and longevity in the parking garage, and a measurable first – sustainable building systems, using the closest natural resource – the St. John’s Harbour.

“Stantec took our conceptual requirements and turned them into a building that fits in with the scale of Water Street while standing out as a symbol of intelligent, sustainable, and collaborative design and implementation,” said Judy Wall, Vice-President of East Port Properties Inc.

Using St. John’s Harbour as an energy source for both heating and cooling an office building – another first in Newfoundland and Labrador – has resulted in a 35% reduction in energy use at 351 Water Street.

Now in their 48th year, the Awards are presented jointly by the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies-Canada (ACEC) and Canadian Consulting Engineer magazine. They recognize consulting engineering firms and their projects in terms of high quality, innovation, and technical excellence. They are considered the highest recognition for excellence in the consulting engineering industry and the winners are selected by independent jurors who have distinguished backgrounds in various sectors of the industry.

The award-winning projects are described in full in the October / November 2016 issue of Canadian Consulting Engineer magazine, at www.canadianconsultingengineer.com/digital-edition.
