September 3rd, 2019 – East Port Properties is proud to announce 355 Wilkinson – part of the Wilkinson Warehouses in Dartmouth, NS – has achieved the goal of Zero Carbon Building – Design certification from the Canada Green Building Council® (CaGBC). This certification program is the first of its kind in Canada and one of the first in the world.

355 Wilkinson is the first industrial building in the country to be certified under this new CaGBC standard.

“We’re excited to receive this prestigious certification,” said Judy Wall, President, East Port Properties. “We set out to build a new generation of zero carbon warehouses, and that’s exactly what we’re doing. Having this third-party certification provides validation of our design, as well as recognition of our commitment to innovation in the industrial sector of the real estate industry.”

CaGBC launched the Zero Carbon Building Standard in an effort to prioritize the pursuit of zero emissions today. This Zero Carbon Building Design certificate confirms 355 Wilkinson has demonstrated design excellence in the following areas:

“At East Port, we pride ourselves on developing and managing high-performance buildings,” continued Wall. “With construction of the third Wilkinson building officially underway, this latest achievement is testament to our unwavering commitment to sustainable workplace real estate, regardless of the asset class. We would like to take this opportunity to thank each of our partners for believing in our vision and supporting Canada’s first green building program to make carbon emissions the key indicator for building performance.”“We at the Canada Green Building Council applaud East Port Properties’ dedication in pursuing zero carbon,” said Thomas Mueller, President and CEO of CaGBC. “East Port is bringing innovative thinking to industrial developments and they are paving the way for a new generation of zero carbon warehousing, an asset class that represents over two billion square feet of real estate across 11 Canadian markets. East Port’s innovations in envelope design and heating systems will bring their tenants closer to spending $0 on central heating bill—making a strong case for zero carbon in many more industrial spaces.”
